Early Life

Desmond Elliot was born to a Yoruba father from Lagos Island and a mother from Illah, Delta State. He spent his early education years in Jos, attending Air Force Primary School and St. John’s College. He later earned a degree in Economics from Lagos State University in 2003.

Career

Elliot ventured into acting after a friend encouraged him, starting with roles in soap operas like Everyday People, One Too Much, and Saints and Sinners. Over the years, he became one of Nollywood’s most recognized faces, with appearances in over 200 films including Men Who Cheat, Yahoo Millionaire, and Atlanta.

In 2006, he earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the African Movie Academy Awards for his performance in Behind Closed Doors. He also co-directed and co-produced Reloaded in 2008, which received multiple award nominations the following year. He continued to receive accolades, including nominations at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2009 and 2010, and again in 2014 for his supporting role in Finding Mercy.

In 2010, Elliot joined the Face of Hope Project as an ambassadorial candidate, aiming to combat child illiteracy across Nigeria and Africa.

Desmond Elliot formally entered politics in 2014, declaring his intention to run under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He won the Surulere Constituency seat in the 2015 elections and secured re-election for a second term. During the 2020 End SARS protests, he faced backlash for controversial statements regarding social media regulation, prompting public criticism and widespread internet memes. Elliot later issued an apology, acknowledging his missteps and promising to engage more constructively moving forward.

Desmond Elliot is married to Victoria Elliot, and they have four children.
