Early Life
Shola Allyson-Obaniyi, widely known as Shola Allyson or Sola Allyson, was born on September 24, 1971, in Ikorodu, Lagos State. She grew up in a Muslim household and began her education at Anglican Primary School. She later attended Shams-el-deen Grammar School and continued her studies in Business at Government Technical College, Agidingbi.
Her passion for music led her to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where she studied Music Technology. She majored in Voice and minored in Music, and received mentorship from Professor Oluwole Oladejo Adetiran. She graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) with Upper Credit.
Career
Allyson began singing backup at the age of thirteen. Over the years, she worked with renowned artists such as Yinka Ayefele, Gbenga Adeboye, Pasuma, Obesere, and Daddy Showkey.
Her big break came unexpectedly during a bus ride. A conversation with a fellow passenger led her to create the soundtrack for the film “Orekelewa,” which was later renamed “Eji Owuro.” The success of the film and its music inspired a full album that marked her official entry into the music industry.
She went on to release several albums, including Gbeje F’ori, Ire, and Im’oore. Her most beloved songs include “Eji Owuro”, “Obinrin Ni Mi”, “Aseye”, and “Isinmi.”
Shola Allyson married Toyin Obaniyi in March 2003, whom she met in the church choir. They have three children: Ayobami, Mopelola, and Obafunmiwo.
Shola Allyson continues to impact lives as a soulful singer, voice coach, and counsellor. Her story reflects purpose, faith, and the power of destiny.
