Early Life
Born David Tokuma Dekor on December 14, 2002, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Pawzz hails from Benue State. Raised in a Christian household as the middle child among three siblings, he found his passion for music early. Encouraged by his mother after she noticed his love for drumming and performing, Pawzz began singing and rapping in high school.
His talent stood out when he won the Coca-Cola Student Regionals Competition, a major milestone that fueled his artistic ambition. While studying Mass Communication at the university level, he made the life-changing decision in 2019 to pursue music full-time.
He chose the name “Pawzz” as a reflection of his vision a call to be bold, authentic, and unafraid.
Career
Pawzz burst into the Nigerian music scene with the release of “Koma,” an infectious uptempo Afrobeats track that showcased his vibrant energy and originality. A week later, on January 20, 2023, he followed up with Prezz Play, a 5-track EP that introduced audiences to his dynamic sound and lyrical presence.
His music blends the vibrance of mainstream Afrobeats with a personal flair that stands out. His ability to stay authentic while connecting with broad audiences helped him secure recognition as Apple Music’s Up Next artist for Nigeria in February 2023. That milestone marked a turning point, validating years of creative effort and commitment.
Pawzz’s fanbase, known as The Pride, reflects his message of individuality and freedom championing self-expression without societal limits.
