Bimbo Manuel is a Nigerian actor, writer, producer, and broadcaster whose career predates the Nollywood home-video boom, making him one of the industry’s genuine bridge figures between Nigeria’s television-drama era and its modern streaming age.

Born on October 30, 1958, in Lagos, he was raised partly in Ibadan, Oyo State, with his brother. After completing his secondary education in Nigeria’s Western Region, Manuel initially pursued science subjects and had ambitions of becoming a DJ before a friend suggested he try radio, leading him to the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with honours.

Manuel began his professional career in 1985 as a broadcaster at the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation before moving to Ogun State Television, and transitioned into acting in 1986. He became a fixture of pre-Nollywood and early Nollywood television, appearing in influential dramas including Checkmate, Fuji House of Commotion, Ripples, and the landmark 1992 film Living in Bondage, widely credited with launching the modern Nigerian film industry.

Over a career spanning nearly four decades, Manuel has appeared in Glamour Girls, Isakaba, October 1, and the acclaimed television series Tinsel, where he played Dan Ade-Williams, alongside more recent work in the Netflix crime drama King of Boys and the legal series Castle and Castle. His performances have earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2013 Nollywood Movie Awards.

Beyond acting, Manuel remains an outspoken industry activist, regularly commenting on issues affecting the Actors Guild of Nigeria and the wider film business, while also continuing to write and direct stage plays, including the 2022 production Philomena, staged in Port Harcourt.
