Early Life

Temitope Kofoworola Osoba, popularly known as Tope Osoba, was born on 2 December 1985 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. She was her parents’ first and only child, and lost both parents at a young age, being subsequently raised by her grandparents. She received her primary and secondary education in Lagos State before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.

Career

Tope Osoba’s entry into Nollywood came almost by chance in 2005, when she was discovered while walking home from school and stumbled into a movie rehearsal, where she was selected on the spot for a dancing role in a film produced by Laide Bakare. She made her formal debut in ‘Ijoya,’ but rose to wider fame in 2009 through ‘Ogun Mi,’ produced by Dayo Amusa. She went on to build a career in Yoruba-language cinema, with credits including ‘Gucci Girls’ and ‘Igboro Ti Daru,’ both of which helped raise her profile. She also moved into production, releasing her own film, ‘Single Ladies.’

In late 2024, Osoba discovered a lump during a routine breast self-examination. Initial medical assessments dismissed it as related to her childbearing age, but persistence led to further tests that confirmed a breast cancer diagnosis. She underwent surgery and radiation treatment, appealing publicly for financial support toward a second operation, with fellow actress Foluke Daramola and other colleagues rallying support on her behalf. In 2025, she announced she was cancer-free and made an emotional return to acting, sharing her journey publicly to encourage others facing similar diagnoses.

Death

Tope Osoba died on 4 August 2026 at the age of 40, less than a year after her return to acting. Her death was announced by colleague Alesh Sanni, and later confirmed by fellow actress Foluke Daramola. Her family disputed early reports linking her death directly to cancer, describing some circulating claims about the circumstances as false and unauthorised. Her final public message before her passing was “Ogo Tuntun,” meaning “A New Glory.”

Remembered for her resilience through illness and a career built from an unplanned start into a lasting presence in Yoruba Nollywood, Tope Osoba’s story continues to resonate with fans who followed her journey closely.
