Yvonne Orji is a Nigerian-American actress and comedian born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in December 1983, before her family relocated to the United States. She has been open in her comedy specials about her heritage, describing her family lineage as including a grandfather who was a king and a father who served as a village chief, details that made her early pivot to comedy an unexpected one for her family.

Orji broke through internationally playing Molly Carter, the sharp-tongued best friend at the centre of HBO’s acclaimed series Insecure, a role that ran across the show’s full run and earned her widespread critical praise and multiple award nominations.
