Fast-rising Nigerian singer Brown Joel has set the record straight about the nature of his collaboration with the artists behind the viral hit Ogechi. In a video recently shared on social media, he clarified that he and his collaborators are not part of a formal music group.

“We’re not a group. We’re friends and individual artists. There’s no contract binding us as a crew,” Brown Joel stated. His message comes in response to growing public assumptions that the success of Ogechi indicates a permanent alliance.

Though the artists worked together on Ogechi, Brown Joel stressed that each one continues to pursue a separate music career. The collaboration, he explained, was born out of friendship and mutual respect—not a business arrangement.

He also used the opportunity to criticize the growing emphasis on streaming numbers in today’s industry. “When you get to a concert, real humans will sing for you. Not digital numbers,” he said, highlighting the importance of authentic fan engagement.
