Popular Nigerian media personality Denrele Edun has voiced frustration over the limited recognition he has received for his decades of impact on the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, Denrele emphasized how he pioneered and transformed Nigeria’s red carpet culture.
He explained, “I started out in 1994 and single-handedly revolutionised the red-carpet culture in Nigeria. No one really paid attention to the red carpet until I turned it into an event on its own. These days, people come just for the red carpet and barely care about the main event.”
Famous for his flamboyant style and energetic interviews, Denrele reminisced about his time with a leading music channel, where even government officials and top politicians would attend events just to engage with him. “I had a way of making people feel good about themselves. I am a body language expert, and over the years, I’ve worked with many brands to transform the red carpet into a unique experience. When you meet me, you don’t just get a conversation; you get an experience.”
Reflecting on his legacy, Denrele calls himself a “trendsetter” and “culture shaper.” Yet, he laments that his contributions remain undervalued. “My portfolio of work is the most undervalued and underappreciated in the industry,” he declared.
