Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has confirmed that a blogger has been arrested and prosecuted for circulating a video from the burial ceremony of actor Odunlade Adekola’s father. The actress said the video was manipulated to create a false narrative against her.
Earlier this year, she faced harsh criticism after a clip from the burial in Otun Ekiti went viral. In it, Ajao appeared to hide and act awkwardly after exchanging pleasantries with Odunlade’s wife. Netizens interpreted her body language as evidence of guilt and accused her of having a romantic affair with the actor. In response, she firmly denied the allegations, calling them a plot to damage her reputation.
On Wednesday, Eniola Ajao announced on Instagram that the blogger responsible for posting the video, identified as Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, has been charged with criminal defamation and cyberbullying under Nigeria’s Cyber Crime Acts. She claims the blogger manipulated video footage—originally captured by another blogger—with malicious intent to ridicule her publicly. She said that after manipulating and circulating the material, he failed to produce real evidence when challenged. Ajao revealed that he was detained for two weeks at Ikoyi Prison before legal action concluded.
She further shared that Adabasioni later issued a public apology to her and begged other bloggers to remove the defamatory video. Ajao said she opted to respond legally to defend her character rather than remain silent while false narratives circulated. She said the incident was deeply hurtful and framed the legal outcome as an example to warn others against defamation.
While many await the court’s full judgment and public reaction, the case highlights how virally spread content can have serious consequences in the digital age.
