Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has opened up about a deeply emotional part of his family’s journey. The respected worship leader revealed that his wife, Sarah, went through five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, while he continued to lead the popular “Hallelujah Challenge.”

The revelation came in the early hours of Friday during the ongoing October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, which runs from October 7 to 31. Speaking to thousands of worshippers streaming live, Nathaniel Bassey shared how those difficult moments tested their strength but never broke their faith.

The singer explained that during those trying periods, he would lead the late-night worship session and then rush to the hospital to be by his wife’s side. He described how the nurses attending to her would often tell him how powerful the worship sessions were, not knowing the pain his family was facing behind the scenes.

“My wife will have to forgive me. Do you know there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance,” he shared. “A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital, and the nurses attending to her would tell me, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one, not two, not three or four pregnancies, but five.”

Nathaniel Bassey and his wife Sarah have been married since 2013. His courage to speak openly about their loss has touched many, showing that even those who inspire others with hope and faith also face their own battles. His story stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, faith, and love.
