Early Life
Mercy Johnson began her primary education in Calabar, Cross River State, before moving to Lagos, where she continued her schooling at the Nigerian Navy Primary School. Mercy attended Rivers State Secondary School and the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for her secondary education.
Career
Mercy Johnson launched her Nollywood career with a breakthrough role in The Maid after a successful audition. She quickly became a household name, starring in hit films like Hustlers, Baby Oku in America, and War in the Palace. Her standout performances earned her major accolades, including Best Supporting Actress at the 2009 Africa Movie Academy Awards for Live to Remember and Best Actress at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Dumebi the Dirty Girl.
Her fame soared, and in 2011 and 2012, she became Googleโs most searched Nigerian celebrity. Despite a brief acting ban in 2013 due to high pay demands, she made a strong comeback and expanded into film production with her debut, The Legend of Inikpi.
Since 2017, Mercy Johnson Okojie has served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on entertainment, arts, and culture. She married Prince Odianosen Okojie in 2011, and together theyโve built a solid family life while she continues to thrive in her career.
