Early Life

Ibinabo Fiberesima was born on 13 January 1970 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, to a Nigerian father, Dr J.B. Fiberesima, of Okrika heritage, and an Irish mother, giving her a multicultural upbringing. She began her education at the Y.M.C.A Play Centre in Port Harcourt before proceeding to Federal Government Girls College in New Bussa, Niger State, for her secondary education. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Ibadan, graduating in 1994, and later pursued a Master’s degree in Audiovisual Management at the Media Business School in Ronda, Spain.

Beauty Pageants and Early Career

Before her acting career, Ibinabo Fiberesima made her name in Nigeria’s beauty pageant scene. She was first runner-up at the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, went on to place as first runner-up at Miss Nigeria in 1991, and later won the Miss Wonderland pageant in 1997. Following university, she moved into nightlife and events, opening and operating The Pyramid Nightclub and Karaoke in Lagos for six years.

Acting Career

Ibinabo Fiberesima made her acting debut in 1997 in the film ‘Most Wanted,’ a role that shot her to fame and recognition across Nollywood. She went on to star in more than 200 films over her career, including ‘The Ghost,’ ‘St. Mary,’ ‘The Twin Sword,’ ‘Ladies Night,’ ‘The Limit,’ ‘Letters to a Stranger,’ ”76,’ ‘Rivers Between,’ ‘A Night In The Philippines,’ ‘Pastor’s Wife’ and ‘Camouflage,’ the latter notable as one of the first Nigerian films to feature an actress in a bikini. She has continued acting in recent years, appearing in the 2025 film ‘Amanyanabo: The Eagle King.’ She later moved into directing, helming the films ‘Miebaka’ and ‘Along Came a Butterfly’ as her directorial debut.

Actors Guild of Nigeria

In November 2012, Ibinabo Fiberesima was elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), becoming the first woman to lead the organisation, in a closely contested election against actor Emeka Ike. Her tenure was later disputed in court, and on 23 March 2016, a Federal High Court in Lagos ruled to strip her of the presidency, transferring leadership to Emeka Ike. The ruling followed a long-running manslaughter case connected to a 2006 road accident on the Lekki-Epe expressway.

Personal Life and Other Ventures

Ibinabo Fiberesima married her university boyfriend, US-based businessman Uche Benjamin Ugbuka, on 18 December 2014, though the marriage later ended. She has three children. Beyond film, she has served as a Brand Ambassador for Air Peace and Image Make Up Nigeria, and as National Director of the Miss Earth Nigeria pageant, continuing to combine acting with business and industry leadership roles.
