Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, has addressed claims that he isn’t lyrically talented. The rapper said this narrative was born out of envy from some of his colleagues who are uncomfortable with his success.
Speaking on the Toronto Ada’s Room podcast, Odumodublvck stated that despite criticism, he is one of the most internationally recognized rappers from Nigeria. According to him, many artists are jealous because he is both a rapper and a singer, which gives him an advantage. “In Nigeria, they say that my rap is not good but I’m the most featured rapper by international artists. I think it’s a thing of envy because I sing my hooks, my songs are hits and I get more bookings than them,” he said.
The “Pity This Boy” hitmaker believes his ability to combine rap with catchy hooks has helped him stand out in a competitive industry. He also explained that while other rappers may think they are more talented, he is achieving more success internationally.
Odumodublvck added that he does not pay attention to the negative talk. Instead, he chooses to focus on his fans and his craft. “The envy is deep especially when they think they are better. But we pay no mind to that. We just continue pushing for those that believe—let them continue to tune in. It’s very unfortunate for the people on the other side because this thing is not going to stop soon,” he said.
He also challenged other rappers to prove they are better by selling more records and filling up more shows. Odumodublvck has built a loyal fan base through his unique sound, which blends rap and Afrobeats. His growing number of international features is a sign of his rising influence in the global music scene.
