Asake, who gained attention with his breakout hit “Lady” in 2020, officially joined YBNL in February 2022. By 2025, he branched out to start his own label, Giran Republic. Olamide recalled their first meeting, stating that Asake’s talent was immediately evident.

“I didn’t know he would blow up like that,” Olamide said. “But from day one, I knew he was special. His sound was unlike anything I had heard before—authentic and refined.”

Olamide emphasized Asake’s work ethic, noting that he never had to push him to stay focused or committed. According to him, Asake brought consistent effort and creativity from the start.

“He’s not someone you need to motivate. He already shows up with fire and passion. That’s why I respect him so much. It made sense to work with him.”

Olamide also explained his approach to artist development, saying he prefers to avoid pressure and instead encourages artists to focus on making great music.

“I always tell them, just make good music. Sometimes it blows up right away, sometimes it takes years. I’ve seen songs I made ten years ago finally getting attention now.”

Olamide’s reflection on Asake’s journey highlights the power of talent, drive, and authenticity.
