Nigerian fast-rising singer Qing Madi has opened up about the harsh realities women face in the music industry. The 19-year-old American Love crooner, who has quickly become one of the most exciting new voices on the scene, shared her thoughts during a recent appearance on the No Wahala Podcast.

According to Qing Madi, the Nigerian music industry is far from being a safe space for women. She noted that female artists are often left without protection, and their contributions are not always welcomed with the same enthusiasm as their male counterparts.

“The industry is not the best for women in terms of protecting women and loving women in general,” she said. “Women have to do twice as much work as men. They get criticised for almost nothing, while men are allowed to do whatever they want.”

Qing Madi went on to stress how unfair these double standards can be, especially for young artists like her who are just finding their footing in the industry. At only 19, she admitted that the constant criticism can be overwhelming, but she remains determined to push through.

Despite these challenges, the talented singer expressed pride in herself and other female artists who continue to thrive in such a tough environment. “Women never get a break,” she added. “So I’m super proud of being a female artist in Nigeria. And I’m super proud of every female artist in Nigeria because it takes a lot. It’s not easy.”

With her honesty and courage, Qing Madi is joining a growing list of female Nigerian musicians who are calling for change in the industry, ensuring that women get the respect and recognition they truly deserve.
