Nigerian music star Rema is making waves again as he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. In the interview, he opened up about his music journey, his new album Heis, and his place in the Afrobeats scene.

Rema confidently said he now sees himself as part of Afrobeats’ “Big Three” — Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido — expanding it to the “Big Four” by adding himself. He shared that all three of these stars have listened to his album Heis and shared their thoughts with him. However, he didn’t reveal what each of them said.

Rema explained that being confident and bragging a little has always been part of the culture. He reminded fans that Davido once said, “I’m bigger than all of you,” while Wizkid sang, “Dem say dem bad, but I swear dem do nothing, oh” in his 2013 hit The Matter. He also pointed out that Burna Boy has always been proud of his achievements. So for Rema, adding himself to the “Big Four” is just him following that same tradition.

During the interview, Rema also shared a personal moment about his friend Odumodublvck. Back in December at the Nativeland Festival, the stage collapsed while Odumodublvck and his team were performing. The scary moment was caught on video and shared online. Luckily, no lives were lost, though a few people got injured.

Rema confirmed that he checked on Odumodublvck after the incident. The rapper, who featured on Rema’s song “War Machine” from the Heis album, later expressed how relieved he was that things didn’t turn out worse.

Rema’s interview shows how much he has grown and how confident he is in his place in the music industry. As he continues pushing Afrobeats to the world, Rema is determined to leave his mark.
