Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon has shared how a low-flying helicopter caused panic in his neighborhood, with residents running indoors out of fear. He explained that the helicopter suddenly flew over his compound, and the loud sound made people believe American soldiers had landed in Nigeria.

Soso wrote, “A helicopter flew past my compound today, and everyone ran inside. We thought American soldiers had arrived already.”

The scare followed former U.S. president Donald Trump’s threats to intervene militarily in Nigeria, claiming Christians were under attack by radical Islamists. Trump said he instructed the American military to prepare for possible action and threatened to label Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” for failing to protect religious freedom. He also warned that the U.S. could suspend all aid and take decisive military measures if the Nigerian government did not act.

The Nigerian government rejected Trump’s claims, calling them misleading and exaggerated. Officials emphasized that violence in the country affects both Christians and Muslims and stems primarily from terrorism, banditry, and farmer-herder conflicts, not religious persecution.

Soso Soberekon’s account highlights how international political threats can create immediate fear in local communities. The helicopter incident shows how quickly panic spreads when citizens encounter uncertainty, underscoring the importance of clear communication and calm in tense situations.
