Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has clapped back at veteran movie director and actor Afeez Owo after he compared her personality to that of his wife, Mide Martins.

During his appearance on the African A-List Podcast, Afeez Owo drew a sharp line between the two actresses. According to him, Mide’s on-screen roles are far from her real-life character, but Wumi’s movie roles closely mirror her true personality. He claimed that “violence is her comfort zone” and that Wumi tends to react quickly when provoked, unlike Mide who prefers to stay calm in real life.

The statement did not sit well with Wumi Toriola, who wasted no time in expressing her anger. In a now-deleted Instagram video, the actress blasted Afeez for what she described as an unnecessary and disrespectful comment.

“Must every rift be taken to podcasts? They gave you a mic, and you started saying rubbish,” Wumi fumed. “Am I a mad woman? If people don’t offend me, will I be angry? I have never insulted you before. I still respect you despite your unfortunate behaviour.”

The actress also questioned why Afeez would publicly describe her in such a way, stressing that while she is known for playing hot-tempered roles on screen, that does not mean it defines who she is in reality.

Both Wumi and Mide Martins have built reputations for portraying fiery and outspoken characters in Nollywood movies, which has sometimes led to blurred lines between their professional roles and personal lives.

With her reaction, Wumi made it clear that she won’t allow anyone, not even a veteran like Afeez Owo, to define her personality publicly.
