Early Life
Alex Ekubo-Okwaraeke was born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He hails from Arochukwu in Abia State, located in southeastern Nigeria. He attended Federal Government College Daura in Katsina State before studying law at the University of Calabar. He later earned a diploma in law from Calabar Polytechnic.
Career And Personal Life
Alex Ekubo began his acting journey in 2005 with a minor role in Sinners in the House, directed by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen.
He gained widespread attention after securing the first runner-up position at the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition. His breakout performance came with Ladies Men, followed by his award-winning role in Weekend Getaway, which earned him Best Supporting Actor at the 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards.
He also gained additional recognition after starring in Yemi Alade’s hit music video Johnny, where he became affectionately known by the same name. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous Nollywood films and TV shows, including Tinsel, Hope Bay, Secrets & Scandals, and AY’s Crib, where he played the role of JJ from 2013 to 2015.
On May 10, 2021, Ekubo and his fiancée, Fancy Acholonu, announced their wedding plans. They scheduled their traditional wedding for November 20 in Imo State and a white wedding for November 27 in Lagos. However, in August 2021, Fancy called off the engagement, confirming the end of their relationship in a public statement. Recently, Alex celebrated a milestone by purchasing his own luxury home.
