Yemi Blaq is a Nigerian actor, songwriter, and filmmaker who has built one of Nollywood’s most prolific careers, with more than 250 film credits since his professional debut in the mid-2000s.

Born Folayemi Olatunji on May 19, 1978, in Ondo State, Nigeria, and raised largely in Lagos, his acting talent was evident from childhood, when a teacher told his mother that he was ‘born to be an actor’ after watching him perform the role of a judge in a school play. He completed his education in Lagos before studying Economics at the University of Lagos, where he continued honing his craft through campus dramatic arts and theatre groups.

Blaq registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s Lagos State chapter in 2005, marking his formal entry into Nollywood, and broke through with the film Lost of Lust, in which he starred opposite Mercy Johnson. His profile grew significantly with the blockbuster My Idol, in which he played the lead role alongside Genevieve Nnaji, a performance that won him Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Over the following two decades, Blaq built an expansive filmography spanning drama, action, and comedy, with credits including Without Goodbye, Sinking Sands, and The Figurine, alongside further honours including Best Actor of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards and Most Promising Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Beyond acting, Blaq has pursued songwriting, releasing music including the track Brake Dey Sharp, and has worked with Mavin producer John Drille. He married writer Remi Ibinola in 2008, whom he met on the set of the film Growing Up, and the couple have collaborated professionally on several of his film projects since.
