Early Life

Clem Ohameze was born on 27 June 1965 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, though he hails from Oguta, Imo State. He completed his secondary education at Holy Family College and Baptist High School before proceeding to the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, where he earned an Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Port Harcourt in 1989. In 2010, he further pursued a Master’s degree in Preventive and Social Medicine at Buckingham University in London.

Career

Clem Ohameze began his professional acting career appearing in NTA television drama series before entering Nollywood in earnest in 1995. His breakthrough came in 1998 with the big-budget movie ‘End Time,’ a role that established him as one of the industry’s most compelling character actors, particularly known for his deep voice and commanding portrayals of traditional rulers, powerful politicians and occultic chiefs.

Over a career spanning three decades, Ohameze has appeared in more than 500 films, including ‘Thanksgiving,’ ‘A Cry for Help,’ ‘My Sister My Love,’ ‘Billionaires Club,’ ‘Ije,’ ‘Emotional Blunder,’ ‘Oganigwe,’ ‘Stigma,’ ‘Child of Pain,’ ‘Smooth Operator,’ ‘Last Burial’ and ‘Oloibiri,’ working alongside major Nollywood names including Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Genevieve Nnaji and Sam Dede.

Between 2006 and 2010, Ohameze took a brief break from acting to pursue other interests, including politics, contesting for election to represent the Ohaji-Egbema-Oguta Federal Constituency. He remains a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria and has played a role in shaping the industry’s growth over the decades.

Health and Personal Life

In recent years, Clem Ohameze has faced significant health challenges, including spinal surgery in 2021 that was supported financially by a donation from Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin. He has since focused on his recovery while remaining connected to the industry, with his resilience serving as an inspiration to many of his colleagues and fans. He values his privacy and has largely kept details of his family life out of the public eye, though he has previously spoken about respecting his marriage above the attention that comes with being a well-known actor.

With more than 500 film credits and three decades in the industry, Clem Ohameze remains one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran actors, respected for his versatility and his enduring presence on screen.
