Early Life
Genevieve Nnaji was born in Mbaise, Imo State, and grew up in Lagos. She is the fourth of eight children in her family. Nnaji attended Methodist Girls College, Lagos, and went on to study creative arts at the University of Lagos. She began auditioning for acting roles while at university.
Career
Genevieve Nnaji launched her film career in 1998 with a standout role in Most Wanted, and from that moment, she quickly established herself as a household name in Nollywood. Although the film was eventually disqualified due to its predominantly English dialogue, it sparked essential global conversations on language inclusion and the representation of African cinema on the world stage.
In addition to her cinematic achievements, Genevieve remains a passionate advocate for womenโs rights. She consistently speaks out against early marriage, domestic abuse, and societal pressures, urging the empowerment of Nigerian women and girls.
