Early Life
Chinonso Arubayi was born in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, and grew up in Lagos. She is of Igbo heritage, originally from Awka in Anambra State. She graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwe University with a degree in Mass Communication. During her time at the university, she worked as a presenter at the campus radio station. In 2005, she won the Miss Teen Nigeria title.
Career
rubayi launched her acting career in 2014 with a role on the M-Net television series The Johnsons. She later joined Consolidated Media Associates, where she wrote and produced programs for Soundcity, Trybe TV, and Spice TV. Her work included shows such as On The Couch, Project Swan, and You’ve Got Issues.
In 2018, she enrolled at the Pan Atlantic University’s School of Media Studies to study the Business of Filmmaking. Her major break came in 2020 when she landed a lead role in the feature film Beyond Pardon, produced by Mary Remmy Njoku. From there, she appeared in several prominent productions, including Rumour Has It, My Flatmates, Crazy Grannies, Lockdown, Loving Amanda, and Survivors.
Arubayi began hosting the Filmhouse TV Show in 2018 and later became the host of the popular cooking series Urban Kitchen, which she led for two seasons.
In April 2022, she made her debut as a film producer with I Am Nazzy. Directed by Kayode Peters, the movie starred several acclaimed Nigerian actors including Jimmy Odukoya, Denrele Edun, and IK Ogbonna.
She also received praise for her role as the lead character in Africa Magic TV’s original series Sisi Eko, with critics and fans commending her performance.
In August 2021, Arubayi earned a nomination for Next-Rated Actress of the Year at the Africa Choice Awards. In February 2023, she won the award for Distinguished Actress of the Year.
In 2014, Chinonso Arubayi married Nigerian gospel singer Eric Arubayi. Their marriage lasted until his passing in 2017. The couple has a son named Jayden.
