Nigerian singer Spyro has shared the challenges he’s facing in the music industry since publicly declaring his Christian faith. Best known for his hit single “Who is Your Guy”, the singer says being open about following Jesus has led to a lot of discrimination.
In a recent interview, Spyro revealed that his “Jesus boy” identity has made it harder for him to get media support. While other artists are regularly promoted by popular blogs, he claims he only gets featured when he pays for it. According to him, it’s not about the quality of the music but about the message he stands for.
“My biggest challenge in the music industry right now is discrimination,” Spyro said. “I came out with the ‘Jesus boy’ brand and I’ve received the biggest criticisms.”
He questioned why blogs ignore him while giving attention to other artists who, in his words, are not doing as well as he is. He believes the reason is simple: his open declaration of faith.
“If you want to be truthful to yourself, how many media moguls support or post me when I drop songs? You see them posting other artists but aside from the blogs that I paid to post me, how many media moguls post me?” he asked.

Banky W
Spyro also mentioned that fellow artist-turned-pastor Banky W warned him about this path. According to Spyro, Banky W said things were going smoothly in his career when he was a “bad boy.” But the moment he decided to proclaim Christ, things became much harder.
“Banky W told me that his problem started in the industry the moment he proclaimed Christ,” Spyro shared. “He said when he was a ‘bad boy,’ everything was going well. But immediately he decided to do it in a godly way, war started.”
Spyro believes the system is set up to push down those who openly follow Christ. Still, he remains committed to his values and hopes more people will support artists who stay true to their faith.
