Sokoto singer Boyskido released “Gimbiyar Hausa” on 19 December 2025, and the song has quietly turned into one of the longest-running Arewa streaming stories of 2026.
The single came out through OSB, the imprint tied to his “Ordinary Sokoto Boy” run, and clocks in at two minutes and fifty-one seconds — short, direct and built to loop.
Boyskido has been building steadily since his 2021 EP “I Am Next,” followed by singles including “MaMa,” “Babyn Baby” and “Ango” in 2024, a guest turn on Emteey Shmurda’s “Aure” remix, and “Ango Mai Capacity” and “Yarinya” in 2025.
The title translates as “Hausa Princess,” and the writing is straightforwardly romantic. Boyskido praises the woman at the centre of the song for her beauty and warmth, then moves quickly from admiration to intention.
Rather than leaving it at flattery, the lyrics turn towards commitment — promises to visit her family, to greet her mother, and to bring both households together. It frames love as something negotiated through respect and tradition rather than pursued in private.
That combination of romance and cultural pride is a large part of why the record kept spreading. It sits comfortably in Hausa musical convention while carrying production modern enough to hold up next to the rest of the Arewa streaming field.
The song has since appeared on Spotify’s Top Hausa 100 playlist alongside acts such as DJ AB and Mosbeekhan, and a separate cover version featuring Real Ahmedo has circulated on the back of the original’s reach.
Boyskido has kept the momentum going through 2026 with “Khadija (Nana),” “Mairamar Daura,” the General Six collaboration “Rai,” and “Imran & Zulaiha” in April, but “Gimbiyar Hausa” remains the record that opened the door.
