Early Life

Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, was born on 27 October 1990 in Mushin, Lagos State. He is the son of renowned lawyers and human rights activists, Funmi and Femi Falana.

Falz completed his primary education at St. Leo’s Catholic Primary School in Ikeja and secondary education at Olashore International School in Osun State. He earned an LLB Honors degree in Law from the University of Reading in England and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2012 after graduating from the Nigerian Law School.

Career And Achievements

Falz began his music career in secondary school by forming a group called The School Boys. In 2009, he launched his professional music career, releasing a mixtape titled Shakara: The Mixtape. His debut studio album, Wazup Guy (2014), featured hits like “Marry Me” and collaborations with artists such as Yemi Alade and Olamide. In 2015, he followed up with Stories That Touch and won several nominations for his singles. Falz also released the Chemistry EP with Simi in 2016, further solidifying his presence in the music industry.

In 2017, Falz released his third album, 27, which included collaborations with top Nigerian artists and earned critical acclaim.

His politically charged music video “This Is Nigeria” (2018) sparked national conversation and controversy, leading to a brief ban by the National Broadcasting Commission. Falz challenged the ban legally, standing firm on his message against corruption and social injustice.

Besides music, Falz has a flourishing acting career. He won Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and Best Supporting Actor in 2018.

In 2020, he launched his film production company, House21TV, and created a popular comedy series, Therapy Session. In 2023, he collaborated on the politically charged single “Yakubu,” highlighting election issues in Nigeria. Falz continues to influence Nigerian entertainment with his creativity and activism.
