Early Life

Samuel Dedetoku, widely known as Sam Dede, was born on November 17, 1965. He is a veteran Nigerian actor, director, politician, and lecturer who has significantly contributed to Nollywood and the Nigerian arts industry. Sam Dede studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, where he also later became a lecturer, teaching acting to upcoming actors.

Career

Sam Dede started his Nollywood journey in 1995 and quickly gained recognition for his role in the film Ijele. His exceptional talent earned him the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2005 for his performance in The Mayors.

He received a special recognition award for lifetime achievement at the SVAFF in 2014, highlighting his impact on Nigerian cinema. In 2018, he earned a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards for his work in In My Country (2017).

In 2012, Sam Dede also served briefly as the Director-General of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency. Alongside his acting career, he has committed himself to mentoring the next generation of actors as a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt.

One of his notable students is Yul Edochie, who has since become a leading Nollywood actor. Despite his interest in politics, Sam Dede announced in 2012 that he would not leave acting to pursue a political career.
