Early Life
Born in Lagos State, Omowunmi Dada attended Ifako International Nursery and Primary School. During this time, she joined the Yoruba Cultural Troupe, which nurtured her early love for performance. She continued her education at Command Day Secondary School in Oshodi, then studied Creative Arts at the University of Lagos, where her passion for acting solidified.
Career
Omowunmi Dada began her acting journey by taking minor roles in university stage productions. Her first notable stage role came with the play Moremi Ajasoro, directed by Femi Oke. She made her film debut in 2013 with Oya, acting alongside Tunji Sotimirin, and soon landed roles in acclaimed films like Omugwo, directed by Kunle Afolayan, alongside Patience Ozokwor and Ayo Adesanya.
She expanded her career into television, appearing in series such as Married to the Game, Best Friends, Dere (an African take on Cinderella), Jemeji, Tinsel, So Wrong So Wright, Needles Eyes, and Bella’s Place.
In 2017, she delivered a powerful performance in the stage production Isale Eko, which received endorsement from the Lagos State Government as part of the official events for the state’s 50th anniversary.
In 2018, Omowunmi brought the character Sade to life in Nigeria’s first full-length animated movie. She continued to gain recognition, appearing in Ayinla, a film by Tunde Kelani, alongside Kunle Afolayan and Lateef Adedimeji.
Later that year, Nigerian filmmaker and critic Charles Novia named her among the Best Actresses of the Year in Nigeria.
Beyond acting, Omowunmi supports social causes. She serves as an ambassador for the Daivyan Children Cancer Foundation, which raises awareness and provides support for children battling cancer. She also represents the Brian Wotari Foundation, dedicated to empowering and inspiring youth.
In 2021, she portrayed Halima Abdul, an investigative journalist, in the short film Rebirth, directed by Psalm Oderinde and produced by Chris Odeh of Sozo Films for the Homevida Masterclass. The script was written by Thecla Uzozie and Dawn Ntekim-Rex.
At the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Omowunmi won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film Country Hard.
