Tems has achieved another huge milestone in her music career. The Nigerian singer is now the best-selling female African artist of all time. This impressive record places her ahead of legends like Angelique Kidjo, Tiwa Savage, and Yemi Alade.

Tems started her journey in 2018 and has risen quickly to international fame. Her music has connected with millions around the world, earning her several Platinum certifications. According to recent data, she has sold over 25 million units globally.

Some of her top-selling songs include ‘Essence’, which went 5x Platinum in the US, meaning it sold 5 million units there. Her song ‘Wait For U’ is 3x Platinum in the US with 3 million units sold, while ‘Free Mind’ is 2x Platinum with 2 million units. Another favourite, ‘Higher’, has also been certified Platinum for selling 1 million units in the US alone.

Tems has earned Platinum and Gold certifications in other countries too, such as the UK, Canada, France, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, and South Africa. Her success shows how far African music has come, with her sound reaching different parts of the world.

However, Algeria’s Cheb Khaled remains Africa’s top-selling artist overall with 81 million units sold. He is followed by Nigeria’s Wizkid with 75 million units. Still, Tems’ record as the highest-selling female artist is a proud moment for Nigeria and Africa’s music industry.
