Popular Nollywood actor and director, Afeez Owo, has finally opened up about the real reason behind his much-publicized separation from wife and actress, Mide Martins. This revelation comes nine years after their marital crisis first made headlines and stirred massive online conversations.

Back in April 2016, Mide Martins shocked fans when she confirmed in a social media post that her husband had moved out of their home following what she described as a “minor argument” over the well-being of their children. That post immediately went viral, sparking speculations that the couple’s marriage was on the rocks.

Speaking recently on the Behind The Fame podcast, Afeez Owo admitted that the misunderstanding was indeed serious but revealed that things got blown out of proportion because of social media. According to him, he had stormed out of the house intending to cool off for just two nights at a hotel, but when Mide accused him of leaving the home, he stubbornly decided to stay away for longer.

“The news of our separation went viral. That fight became our first and last fight as a couple. Social media made it bigger than it was,” he explained.

Thankfully, the couple eventually reconciled after Mide Martins apologized to her husband, a move Afeez says healed their marriage.

For context, Mide is the daughter of late veteran actress Funmi Martins, who passed away in 2002. Shortly after her mother’s death, Mide married Afeez Owo, who had worked closely with Funmi as her manager. The couple tied the knot in 2003 and have since built a family together.

Today, their story serves as a reminder of how quickly social media can escalate private issues, but also how love and understanding can mend even the toughest cracks.
