Nigerian rapper Erigga has shared his strong opinion on polygamy, describing it as a practice that negatively affects women and children. Drawing from his personal experience, the artist explained that growing up in a polygamous family taught him valuable lessons about the emotional and psychological strain it can create.
During an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Erigga said he made a conscious decision to avoid repeating his father’s lifestyle. “I am trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; one person always gets hurt, and it’s usually the woman. There’s never a polygamous situation where the man gets hurt it’s always the woman and the kids,” he stated.
The rapper emphasized that polygamous relationships often lead to conflict, jealousy, and division among family members. According to him, while men might appear unaffected, women and children often carry the emotional weight of competition and neglect.
Erigga encouraged men to embrace monogamy, which he described as simpler and more rewarding. He believes monogamous relationships promote emotional stability, fairness, and stronger family bonds. The artist added that modern society needs to prioritize empathy and equality in relationships rather than maintaining outdated traditions that cause pain.
