The United States Embassy(US Embassy) in Nigeria has honoured five Nigerian content creators for their entries in the “Made in America, Loved in Nigeria” video contest. The contest was created to promote creativity and strengthen cultural and economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.
The award ceremony took place in Abuja. Diplomats, creatives, and industry stakeholders attended the event. They gathered to celebrate storytelling that shows how American products and ideas influence everyday life in Nigeria.
Rasheedat Fagbenle emerged as the grand prize winner. Her video entry stood out for its creativity and message. Other winners included Tito Abumere, Janefrancis Odinkemma Ugwu from Abuja, Cyril Usheshe from Cross River State, and Timileyin Durotoye from Osun State.
Rasheedat is a 21-year-old final-year Political Science student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. She expressed joy after receiving the award. According to her, the recognition has motivated her to continue creating meaningful digital content.
“I am really grateful and excited for this recognition. It inspires me to keep using digital storytelling to share meaningful ideas,” she said.
Speaking at the event, Lee McManis, the Country Public Diplomacy Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, explained the purpose of the contest. He said the initiative was designed to improve people-to-people engagement between both countries. He also noted that the project goes beyond promoting products.
“This contest is more than a showcase of American products and brands. It is a celebration of the enduring partnership between the United States and Nigeria — a partnership built on commerce, mutual respect and a shared commitment to progress,” McManis said.
The recognition highlights the growing impact of Nigerian digital creators. It also shows how storytelling can connect cultures and encourage collaboration. Through initiatives like this contest, creative content continues to serve as a tool for understanding, innovation, and stronger international relationships.
