Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again stirred intense reactions online after launching a verbal attack on Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo over her recent remarks about single mothers.
The drama started after Iyabo Ojo, fondly referred to by fans as “Queen Mother,” spoke positively about single mothers, suggesting that many of them are thriving and doing well despite societal pressure and criticism. While her comments received praise from supporters who viewed them as empowering and encouraging, they did not sit well with the outspoken singer.
In a widely circulated rant, Portable strongly criticised the actress, accusing her of promoting what he described as the wrong values to younger women. He questioned the kind of advice such statements offer to those preparing for marriage, arguing that it could encourage unstable family structures. The singer claimed that celebrating single motherhood without context sends the wrong message to the next generation.
Portable went further to insist that married women fare better than single mothers, alleging that men often take financial advantage of women raising children alone. According to him, promoting single motherhood as a success story could negatively influence children and young adults who look up to public figures for guidance.
