U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to pursue legal action against comedian Trevor Noah following the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
He accused Noah of defamation after the host made a joke linking him to the late Jeffrey Epstein during the live broadcast.
The controversy centers on a remark Noah made while referencing Trump’s past interest in buying foreign territory.
“That’s a Grammy that every artist wants—almost as much as Trump wants Greenland. Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton,” Noah said.
The U.S. president responded on Truth Social, denying the claim and criticizing both Noah and the award show.
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer,” Trump wrote.
Addressing the Epstein remark directly, Trump stated:
“Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”
Trump went further, attacking Noah personally and threatening legal action.
“It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$… Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”
Noah appeared to anticipate backlash during the ceremony. After delivering the joke, he addressed the audience.
“So, oh I told you it’s my last year! What are you going to do about it?”
Trump also mocked Noah’s performance, comparing him to Jimmy Kimmel and urging him to “get his facts straight.”
As of Monday morning, no formal lawsuit has been filed in court.
