Joseph Momodu, born into the royal family of Oba Momodu II of Etsako-West, Edo State, is a Nigerian actor and model who has quietly built one of Nollywood’s most recognisable “leading man” profiles. Raised as Abubakar Sadiq Momodu in a Muslim household before converting to Christianity in 1999, he first stepped on stage at age nine with a drama group at Holy Ghost Intercessory Prayer Ministry, an early spark that carried through to his university years at Delta State University, Abraka, where he graduated with a degree in Mass Communication.

Before acting, Momodu worked as a model, a natural fit given his 6-foot-3 frame and striking looks. He made his professional acting debut in 2013 with a role in the TV series “Civilian Barracks,” and has since built a filmography spanning both film and television, including “Big Fat Lie,” “On My Honour,” “Coming to Nigeria” (2024), “Play 2 Kill” (2025), and TV series like “Tinsel” and “The Johnsons.” His work has earned him two Best Body Male awards at the African Movie Academy Awards, in 2018 and 2019.

More recently, Momodu has set his sights on international opportunities, revealing that he auditioned for a Tyler Perry production seeking an African American actor with Spanish and Italian heritage, a role made possible by his fluency in both languages. Beyond acting, he has also launched an international fashion brand, JS Couture, based in Los Angeles.
