Early Life
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, was born on November 18, 1981, alongside his identical twin brother, Rudeboy. They grew up in a large family in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, born to Josephine and Mazi Moses Okoye.
Peter and his brother joined their school’s music and drama club, where they started dancing, singing, and performing covers of popular artists like MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson.
Career
Mr P rose to fame in the 2000s as one half of the music duo P-Square with his twin brother. In 2001, the duo won the “Grab Da Mic” competition, which earned them sponsorship for their album Last Nite. P-Square also received multiple accolades, including the 2003 Amen Award for Best R&B Group and the 2010 Artist of the Year award at the Kora Awards in Burkina Faso.
In 2017, P-Square disbanded, and He pursued a solo career, releasing his debut singles “For My Head” and “Cool It Down” the same year. In 2018, he collaborated with Nyanda from Brick & Lace on the song “Wokie Wokie.”
In 2021, Mr P also launched his own record label, PClassic Label, signing Nigerian activist and DJ, DJ Switch. That year, he released his 16-track debut solo album The Prodigal, featuring artists like Tiwa Savage, Simi, Teni, Wande Coal, Tamar Braxton, and Mohombi.
He also ventured into acting, playing Arinze in the film Lionheart directed by Genevieve Nnaji.
Lastly, In 2013, he married Lola Omotayo, and they have a daughter born in San Francisco. Mr P was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from ESCAE University in Benin Republic in 2021.
