Early Life

Tope Alabi was born on October 27, 1970, in Lagos State, Nigeria. Originally from Yewa, Ogun State, she grew up in a family of seven.

Her passion for music emerged early, singing in her local Catholic church choir by age seven. She attended Oba Akinyele Memorial High School in Ibadan, Oyo State, before earning a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic Ibadan in 1990. After graduation, she worked briefly as a correspondent at NTA Ibadan.

Career

Tope Alabi began her career in entertainment during the 1990s as an actress with the Jesters International group. She soon transitioned into soundtrack composition for Yoruba-language films, where her talent for fusing traditional proverbs, Christian teachings, and indigenous sounds distinguished her.

In 2000, she gained widespread recognition with her debut album Ore ti o Common. The album’s success propelled her to the forefront of Nigerian gospel music. She followed it with acclaimed projects like Agbara Nla (2001), Angeli Mi (2007), and Yes and Amen (2018). Tope has composed over 350 soundtracks for films and continues to be a pillar in the gospel music community.

She is married to Soji Alabi, her music producer. Together, they have three children and continue to minister through music.

Tope Alabi remains a spiritual voice in gospel music, known for her powerful vocals, deep faith, and culturally rich compositions.

Her ability to weave spiritual truths with indigenous Yoruba expressions has made her a household name across generations. Beyond her musical influence, Tope continues to inspire believers with her personal walk of faith, humility, and consistency. Through decades of active ministry, she has proven that gospel music is not just entertainment but a powerful vehicle for healing, hope, and revival.
