Early Life
Adesua Etomi was born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, as the youngest of three children. Her father, of Esan heritage from Edo State, served as a soldier, while her mother, of Yoruba descent, worked as an engineer.
She began her education at Corona School in Victoria Island, Lagos, and continued at Queen’s College. At age 13, she moved to the United Kingdom. In 2004, she earned a diploma in Physical and Theatre Arts from City College Coventry, and in 2006, she pursued a degree in Arts and Performance at the University of Wolverhampton.
Career
Adesua Etomi built a remarkable acting career with roles in notable films such as The Arbitration, The Wedding Party, and Falling. Her outstanding performance in Falling secured her the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
She also played significant roles in A Soldier’s Story (2015), Out of Luck (2015), and Couple of Days (2016). On television, she portrayed Sheila in seasons four and five of the series Shuga, which focused on HIV/AIDS awareness. In 2016, she took on the role of Amaka Obiora, an undercover police officer, in the crime drama LasGidi Cops.
Her influence extended beyond acting when Vogue named her among 14 global superstars. In 2022, she ventured into music with her debut single “So Natural.” By October 2023, she co-founded the beauty brand Sanaa Beauty with fellow actress Jemima Osunde, adding entrepreneurship to her growing list of achievements.
Adesua Etomi is married to musician and actor Banky W. The couple welcomed their first child, Hazaiah, in January 2021 and announced the birth of their second child in 2024.
