Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is a British actor of Yoruba Nigerian heritage whose path to Hollywood began under unusually difficult circumstances. Born in Islington, London in August 1967 to Nigerian parents, he was placed into foster care just six weeks after birth, an experience that shaped much of his early life before he eventually pursued modelling in Milan and a law degree at King’s College London.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje transitioned from modelling into acting, quickly becoming known for intense, physically commanding character roles. He gained major recognition playing Simon Adebisi in HBO’s prison drama Oz, a performance that established him as a formidable screen presence, before going on to memorable roles in Congo, The Mummy Returns, and as the mysterious Mr. Eko in the hit series Lost.
