John Boyega, born John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega in London in March 1992, is a British actor and producer whose international breakthrough came through playing Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy beginning in 2015. His performance earned him the BAFTA Rising Star Award, and he later won a Golden Globe for his role as Leroy Logan in Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe.

Beyond blockbuster franchise work, Boyega has built a varied filmography including The Woman King and They Cloned Tyrone, while increasingly using his platform to advocate for stronger ties between Hollywood and Nigeria’s film industry. Speaking at the RMB Think Summit in Lagos, he described his long-term goal as producing high-quality collaborations that authentically reflect Nigerian culture rather than treating the country as a backdrop.

Boyega has previously discussed plans to develop a Nigerian film with a budget in the range of $20 to $25 million, positioning it as a serious, large-scale collaboration rather than a passing gesture. His public commitment to facilitating deeper Hollywood-Nollywood partnerships has made him one of the most vocal Nigerian-heritage actors pushing for structural, long-term change in how the two industries work together.

As Nollywood continues its rapid global streaming expansion, Boyega’s ongoing interest in producing within Nigeria signals the kind of large-budget, actor-led investment many in the industry have been hoping to see translate from statements into finished films.
