Nigerian music legend 2Baba has finally addressed the long-running controversy over who wrote his classic hit, “African Queen.”
In a recent interview on the 234 Mzansi Podcast posted on YouTube, 2Baba explained that the song was a collaboration between him and his former bandmate, Blackface.
“It’s a collab. I wrote most of the song actually, but we wrote it together,” he said.
Despite this, Blackface has continued to claim sole ownership of the song. These accusations have trailed both artists for years, fuelling one of the most talked-about feuds in Nigerian music.
2Baba expressed disappointment over the situation. He said, “For me, the law and the legal things speak for themselves. So I’m not somebody to come and start… I don’t know what his intentions are. I don’t know what I’ve ever done to him.”
The singer also shared that he has always shown Blackface respect despite the constant public attacks.
“They (the things he says) are absurd. They are just ridiculous and they are very, very painful sometimes,” he added.
Reflecting on the rift, 2Baba said, “Till today, I just wonder why. That is the only thing I have in my head — like why? What is the reason? It’s just ridiculous.”
“African Queen” remains one of Nigeria’s biggest songs. It played a major role in introducing Afrobeats to the world and cemented 2Baba’s place as a music icon.
