Four former band members of legendary Juju artist Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, widely known as King Sunny Ade, have spoken out about troubling experiences they faced while working under him. In a recently surfaced video interview, the men recounted episodes of alleged mistreatment, neglect, and abuse.

Mukila Damilola, the first to speak, took an oath on the Holy Bible, swearing that every statement he made about King Sunny Ade was true. He shared how the music icon once took several of them abroad for performances but suspected they might escape while overseas. Despite those fears, they all returned to Nigeria. According to Damilola, none of them received payment for that international trip, even up until their departure from the band.
He further alleged that Sunny Ade’s whispered words could be so emotionally damaging that they might push a band member to extreme distress. Damilola recalled a performance in Ondo where the band members had to fund their own accommodation and suffered hunger throughout their one-week stay. Some resorted to attending local parties just to find food.
Another elder band member described being whipped with a cable by King Sunny Ade during a show in Oshogbo. A third man claimed he escaped physical harm but endured frequent verbal abuse.

In stark contrast to these claims, Fuji artist Obesere reportedly bought land for each of his band members and even gifted one a house, highlighting a different approach to supporting one’s team.
