Early Life
Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, professionally known as Sinach, was born on March 30, 1972, in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. She is the second of seven children. Sinach began singing in 1989 while also working as a staff member at Christ Embassy. She earned a degree in Physics from the University of Port Harcourt.
Career
Sinach developed her passion for music in church, writing songs and leading worship long before releasing her debut album Chapter One in 2008. Her breakout song This Is Your Season won Song of the Year in 2008. With over 200 songs written, she has become one of the most impactful gospel voices globally.
Her hit track Way Maker brought her international acclaim, earning her the Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards. She made history as the first African to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 consecutive weeks. In 2021, she received recognition from the U.S. Congress while touring the United States.
Sinach has led worship and performed in over 50 countries, gracing global stages across Africa, the Caribbean, North America, and Asia. Her influence spans continents, with her songs translated into numerous languages.
She received the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award in 2016 and multiple honors for her contributions to gospel music, including the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence.
In 2014, Sinach married Joseph Egbu. On November 17, 2019, she welcomed their daughter, Rhoda, a moment announced during the LIMA Awards by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.
