B.O.C Madaki, born Luka Bulus Madaki, is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter widely regarded as one of the most exceptional lyricists in modern Nigerian rap, known for his ability to blend Hausa and English seamlessly within his verses.
Born on 22 September in Bogoro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, Nigeria, B.O.C Madaki belongs to the Zhar, popularly known as Sayawa, ethnic group. His journey into music began in a local church choir, where he first gave renditions during liberation hour services, before he started writing and recording his own songs in the mid-2000s.
His breakthrough came with the release of his mixtape “No English” in 2015, a project that established him as a serious force within Nigerian hip-hop and demonstrated his commitment to rapping predominantly in Hausa. His music often addresses societal issues, cultural themes and personal experience, earning him a reputation as a relatable and influential figure among fans who connect with his storytelling.
B.O.C Madaki has released several notable projects over the years, including “Sorry, Please, Thanks,” and has remained a frequent collaborator across the Arewa hip-hop scene, working with artists like DJ Cinch, Kheengz, DJ AB and Odumodublvck, with whom he released the joint album “The Drop” in 2022. In 2025, he earned a nomination at the GMA Awards, a milestone widely seen as recognition for an artist challenging the idea that Nigerian music must be performed in English or Pidgin to reach a wide audience.
With a career built on intricate wordplay and cultural depth, B.O.C Madaki continues to push Hausa-language rap into new spaces within Nigeria’s broader hip-hop conversation.
