Early Life

Kunle Ajayi was born on June 16, 1964, in Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria. He began his education at Mushin Local Council Primary School, Idioro, and later attended Eko Boys High School, where he earned the West African School Certificate. Driven by a passion for music, he pursued studies at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in Ijanikin and continued his training at the Royal College of Music in London, where he obtained a certificate in music.

As a young man, he formed a gospel band called The Ambassador with friends and released his first album. He later married his wife at The Apostolic Church in Mushin. In 1991, after completing a one-year program at Faith Bible College, he was ordained as an assistant pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). He became a full pastor in 1997.

Career

Kunle Ajayi began playing the saxophone in the early 1980s. A lung-related illness temporarily halted his music, threatening his voice and health, but he recovered and continued to serve the gospel community. Over the years, he became a central figure in Nigerian gospel music.

He currently serves as the Director of Music at RCCG, where he mentors and inspires upcoming gospel musicians. In recognition of his dedication, RCCG honored him with the Award of Excellence in 2007, and he received the Leadership Award in Nigerian Music in 2008.

In January 2018, he marked 30 years of gospel music ministry with a grand concert at Eko Hotels and Suites.

Kunle Ajayi’s legacy reflects a lifetime of commitment to ministry and music. His saxophone has not only inspired worship but also elevated gospel music in Nigeria.
