Nigerian artist Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, better known as Spyro, recently shared how his deep-rooted faith in Jesus shaped his music journey despite pressure to compromise. In 2019, Spyro left his record label and launched his own, financing the move through personal and bank loans without any external support.

Shortly after, some of his team members questioned his bold identity as “Jesus Boy” and the “Christ Ambassador” label on his profile. They urged him to rebrand, suggesting that his public declaration of faith might limit his appeal and opportunities. One even proposed he change it to “Child of God” to sound more universal.
Spyro refused to back down.
“I would rather die than remove Jesus from my identity,” he told them. Despite understanding their concerns, Spyro believed that staying true to his beliefs would open the right doors. Time has proven him right.
Today, he stands as a testament to the power of faith and consistency. A former team member even reached out recently, acknowledging how Spyro’s commitment has paid off especially in a time when many artists struggle for gigs and brand deals.
Spyro’s story reminds aspiring musicians that standing firm in one’s convictions, especially in a challenging industry, can lead to real success.
