Early Life
9ice was born into a polygamous family with five wives and nine children in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, located in Western Nigeria.
He grew up in the Shomolu Bariga area of Lagos, where he developed a passion for music. Recognizing his singing talent, his parents supported his dream of becoming a musician and encouraged him to pursue his musical aspirations.
Career
In 1996, 9ice recorded his first demo, titled “Risi de Alagbaja,” but it wasn’t until 2000 that he officially debuted with his solo track, “Little Money.”
His breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of “Gongo Aso,” a song that gained significant popularity and led to his invitation to perform at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute concert in London.
That same year, 9ice won the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards.
At the 2009 Hip Hop World Awards held in Abuja, 9ice’s “Gongo Aso” earned him four prestigious awards, including Album of the Year, Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Rap in Pop Album.
His success continued in 2020 with the release of his album Tip of the Iceberg: Episode 1, followed by the second episode, Tip of the Iceberg: Episode II, after a brief hiatus.
In addition to his musical achievements, 9ice is the founder and CEO of Alapomeji Entertainment Limited and the record label Alapomeji Ancestral Record.
Through these platforms, he continues to influence and shape the Nigerian music industry, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the country’s foremost artists.
