The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a scheduled power outage affecting parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The company said the outage is due to maintenance work on a key transformer. The notice was issued on Thursday. AEDC said the work is necessary to maintain reliable electricity supply across the capital.

The maintenance involves the 150 MVA 330/132/33 kV transformer TR1 at the Gwagwalada Transmission Station. This transformer is operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). AEDC explained that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve service quality and prevent unplanned power disruptions.

The outage is scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Power is expected to return promptly after the maintenance. AEDC asked residents and businesses in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements to cope with the temporary disruption.

Affected locations include parts of Gwagwalada, Kuje, Galadimawa, Games Village, Kabusa Garden, Railway, and Idu Industrial. Additional areas include Wuye, Utako, Apo, Garki, Asokoro, Karu, Keffi, and Akwanga. Businesses and households are encouraged to plan for potential interruptions during the four-hour window.

AEDC emphasized that this maintenance is part of a wider plan to enhance power supply reliability in Abuja. The company asked consumers to be patient while the work is carried out. Officials assured that electricity service will be restored as soon as the exercise is complete.

Residents and business owners are advised to take the notice seriously and prepare accordingly. The temporary inconvenience is expected to result in improved stability and service reliability across the city. AEDC said the maintenance is a necessary step to ensure a better power supply in the FCT.
