Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been transferred to Suleja Prison in Abuja, where she will remain in custody pending a formal bail hearing. The transfer follows her arrest in Lagos and appearance before an Abuja court on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in connection with ongoing defamation charges and alleged violation of judicial orders.

Authorities authorized the detention after reports indicated that Okorie repeatedly failed to honor court summons. Legal sources revealed that the actress was tracked to Lagos after officials could not locate her surety from a previous arrest. Her non-compliance led to her being declared a flight risk, resulting in her remand.

Court reporters stated:

“The actress has been moved to a prison, with her bail conditions yet to be determined.”

Photos from the session showed Angela Okorie alongside her legal counsel and colleague Sonia Ogiri, who traveled to Abuja to support the actress.

The legal dispute originates from a series of social media posts directed at fellow actress Mercy Johnson. The feud escalated from a public disagreement to a criminal defamation case after Johnson filed formal legal proceedings.

While some associates, including filmmaker Stanley Ontop, described the arrest as an “abuse of power” and called for Okorie’s immediate release, judicial officials stressed that the remand is a procedural step due to her failure to appear at scheduled hearings.

The court has not yet set a date for the bail application. Until then, Okorie will remain in Suleja Prison. Her legal team has indicated that they are working to satisfy the court’s requirements to secure her release.
