Fati Niger, born Binta Labaran, is a Nigerien-born singer and actress who has earned the honorific title “Gimbiyar Mawakan Hausa,” meaning Princess of Hausa Music, for her decades-long contribution to Hausa music.
Fati Niger was born and raised in Maradi, in the Republic of Niger, where she received her Quranic education and developed an early passion for traditional Hausa singing, particularly the songs performed during full moon nights among youth in Hausa villages. Her love for music was rooted in these communal traditions long before she pursued it professionally.
In 2004, while visiting her sister in Nigeria, Fati Niger discovered the thriving music industry centred in Kano and decided to pursue her singing career there. Since then, she has become one of the most prolific voices in Hausa music, producing four albums and contributing to a catalogue of more than 500 songs across her career.
Fati Niger is known for her frequent collaborations with other leading names in Hausa music, including Nazifi Asnanic, Hamisu Breaker and Ado Gwanja, most notably on the widely streamed single “Saheeba.” Her acting work has also seen her cross over into Kannywood, further extending her cultural footprint beyond music alone.
With more than two decades of consistent output and a title that reflects her standing within the genre, Fati Niger remains one of the defining voices of Hausa music, admired for keeping traditional storytelling alive within a modern, streaming-driven industry.
